Community Food and Health team
The Community Food and Health team works across the whole of the district, although they do a lot of their work in some of the more deprived areas. They give training in healthy eating to lots of different groups.
Their work is varied and focuses on the things that stop people from enjoying a healthy diet. They work with local communities to raise awareness of the health benefits of eating a balanced diet, with five portions of fruit and vegetables a day. Their aim is to help bring down substantially the rate of obesity, coronary heart disease and cancers and includes:
- healthy eating in schools, after-school clubs and breakfast clubs;
- growing projects in schools and communities;
- lifestyle and weight management groups;
- luncheon clubs for the elderly;
- staff training; and
- health fairs.
