Information for Carers
A carer is someone who provides support to a partner, child, relative, friend or neighbour who could not manage without their help. This could be due to age, physical or mental illness, addiction or disability.
NHS Wakefield District works with other organisations, like the local council and support groups, to support carers.
More information, and our partners
There's a special section on the NHS Choices website for carers, called Carer's Direct
, which has information and advice for carers. Carers Wakefield and District
provides support and information for those people who are carers and for professionals who work with carers.
Wakefield Council, together with the PCT, other partner organisations and carers, have developed a Carers Strategy for the Wakefield district. Organisations are now working together to help carers, and develop work practices and services that support them. A copy of the Carers Strategy is available for download at the bottom of this page.
Carers assessment
If you care for someone, you might be able to get some support to help you with your caring role. To find out more, contact Wakefield Council's Social Care Direct team on 0845 8503503 and ask them about getting a Carer's Assessment.
