Hospital care

You may need to visit hospital if you have been referred to a specialist by your GP, or you may need to attend a hospital clinic, receive treatment or have an operation as a day-case or inpatient.

Locally hospital services are primarily provided by The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust opens new window, although you may have a choice of hospitals outside the district if your GP refers you to see a specialist.

Your shortlist of hospitals will depend on the type of specialist you need to see. You may want to go to the hospital where you can be seen soonest, or the one that is the easiest to get to, or one that is nearer your family. Staff at your general practice or health centre will be able to give you information about the hospitals on your shortlist to help you decide which is the best option for you. More information about choice is available on the Choose and Book section.

The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust provides a complete range of general hospital services from three main hospital sites - Pinderfields General Hospital, Dewsbury and District Hospital and Pontefract General Infirmary. In addition, day-case and nurse-led services are provided from Clayton Hospital in Wakefield and some services are available from other clinics across the district.
