Local services
The PCT is responsible for all of the health services provided in your local community.
This includes family doctors (also known as general practitioners or GPs), pharmacists, dentists, and opticians. The PCT also commissions (pays for) hospital care and other specialist services, such as mental health services, on behalf of local people.
As well as providing services to treat your medical needs, the PCT is trying to prevent illness by helping you to improve your health and well-being. We run a variety of healthy lifestyle programmes such as weight management, healthy eating, young person's health, stop smoking, sexual health and substance misuse.
There are lots of health services available across the Wakefield district and it is important that you contact or visit the right place, at the right time to get the right treatment or advice.
To help you find the most appropriate local service for your needs, we hope the information in this section will be useful.
