Practice-based commissioning
GPs, nurses and other primary care professionals are in the best position to improve services that reflect patients' needs.
That is why part of our commissioning role (planning and paying for services) is to make sure that we involve healthcare professionals in commissioning decisions - a process known as practice-based commissioning (PBC).
Over the past year we have carried out a great deal of work towards this by:
- developing practice-based commissioning plans
- developing budgets and reporting and management systems
- providing training to GP practices
- establishing business case processes
- working with optometrists and pharmacists on improving services and development work.
