Your Hospitals Your Say
We identified four services where we could greatly improve care for our patients by delivering them from specialist centres with expert staff and facilities.
This would mean that instead of providing the services at two or three of our hospitals we would bring them together on one site which would care for patients in both the Wakefield and north Kirklees districts.
These four services are:
Inpatient surgery for urology and lower gastro-intestinal (GI) cancer (in Dewsbury) - this is specialist care for patients who need surgery for bladder or prostate conditions, or patients who need cancer surgery for a lower bowel problem. It is for patients who need an operation that means spending at least one night in hospital. We said that this would need extra investment.
The plan was for the above four services only.
The consultation found that people broadly supported the plans to develop specialist centres because they provide better outcomes for patients. However, there were some issues you felt we needed to consider, including transport to support the move of services for visitors as well as patients.
The full report on the findings of the consultation is available to download at the bottom of this page, and from the Your Hospitals Your Say home page. You can also ask for a printed copy from the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) by calling them on 0845 602 4832.
